Professional Artifact

I chose this artifact because it reflects my ability to create meaningful and educational experiences for older adults in a retirement home setting. The display was created to commemorate the beginning of spring, and I included pictures of North American birds and flowers, along with descriptions and characteristics of each.

This sample shows my growth in planning activities that support more than just others' enjoyment. The residents engaged with the display by quizzing themselves on the names of the birds and flowers, which encouraged promoted learning and sparked conversations. It showed me how a simple, creative idea can positively impact residents’ engagement and sense of social connection.

This artifact connects to my learning in the Social Services Gerontology program because it reflects resident centered practice and the importance of supporting the social and cognitive well-being of older adults. It also underlines skills that are relevant to the profession, including creativity and interpersonal skills.
